Supporting Underserved and Marginalised Groups

Promote Financial Inclusion for Smallholder Farmers in Saving Groups(SGs)

In Phase I, AFR partnered with CARE Rwanda to scale up formation of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), through bringing 172,000 people into saving groups over which they were rendered financial education. AFR is building on this past intervention by working with mature groups involved in smallholder farming and supporting their linkages to formal financial institutions.

In Phase II, through CARE’s partnership with Duhamic Adri, the project will offer an opportunity to build the capacity of 120,000 smallholder farmers on improving agriculture production, financial education, business and skills in the next three years.
Selected financial service providers will be facilitated to develop products for the trained groups. The aim of the project is increasing access and use of appropriate financial products, increased agricultural productivity and access to more rewarding markets thus improving livelihoods.
