Tribute to our friend and board member, Professor Thomas Rusuhuzwa Kigabo

The entire Access to Finance Rwanda (AFR) family is very saddened to hear about the death of Professor Thomas Rusuhuzwa Kigabo, a valued member of AFR Board of Directors and Chief Economist at the National Bank of Rwanda. Prof. Kigabo has died in Nairobi where he was undergoing treatment.

Prof. Kigabo has played an important role in the formulation and implementation of monetary, economic and financial sector development policies in Rwanda. As a member of AFR Board, Prof. Kigabo has helped the organisation to streamline its strategy to drive the development of an inclusive financial sector that brings real value to the economy and supports improved livelihoods for low income people across Rwanda. He brought passion and dedication to everything he did.

Prof. Kigabo was always there, whenever we needed him, and was an embodiment of our vision as an organisation. He was deeply committed to the transformation of Rwanda’s economy and strived to pass on his knowledge to future generations of Bankers and Economists through his mentorship initiatives, research, and academic lectures.

All of us in the AFR community want to share our love and support to Prof. Kigabo’s family, colleagues, and friends.

AFR will not forget him and will be honouring and remembering his enthusiasm, passion, commitment, and legacy in the transformation of Rwanda’s economy and the financial sector in particular.

We have lost someone who was a mentor, a colleague, a leader, and a friend.
